The speech of Mr. Maan Abdl-Salam
|
head of Etana Press Ladies and gentlemen,Welcome to the second conference of Etana Press “Women and traditions”.
First we turn very gratefully to dear professor doctor Hani Murtada, minister of high education, for his patronage of this conference. We want also to thank all the ladies and gentlemen, all the experts who have followed our invitation.
Our thanks go to the university of Damascus too for being our host. Thanks also to Finland, Canada, the Netherlands and Germany for their participation and huge support. The aim of Etana Press with this conference is to formulate different conceptions and ideas. Our world is small and it is getting smaller every day. We don’t want a tragedy, and as much as we wish to know about the ways and the attempts at hospitality, as much we try to get it on the way and do make an effort towards its realization.
There is a vision in life and there are souls in the world which devote themselves to the liberation and meaning of mankind, which will become evident: “It is not only in the nature of man, but also in the safeguarding of his dignity and uniqueness that we have lived the experience, the tragedy, and the dream”, and we hope that here is a world which is listening to us.
How much do we need the voice of reason, and ideas which have tested and are testing the truth, and there is the hope every day and in every moan that a conference like this may make clear the problems and can show obvious channels how to proceed and may be the beginning for similar and different undertakings at the same time. The interconnection and the intensification of relations is the most import thing we seek here. Maybe in a moment of sincerity and enthusiasm we are able to change something and there will be a desire to act followed by an action.
At the end I want especially to thank all the companions, all the volunteers, female and male. They carried and still do carry the burden of responsibility. To you I want to express high esteem and respect. |
