Will the controversy of veil move to moderate Syria
|
Mays Al-Kraidy
26.2.2010 The rumors in the recent past, regarding the subject of shifting veiled women from the ministry of Education to an administrative posts, the release which has been issued by one of human rights organizations, and the debate which followed, can be considered as an indication of a presence of formal complication of religiosity, racing to be projected in form, ignoring its signification which we couldn’t vaticinate, in absence of direct friction to some extent.
Since Syria is not distant from the changes, that are taking place in the region, during the rising of intransigence, which is controlling people’s flavor, even in following football match ( an incident took place in Saudan lately ) making admissible and inviolable a separating frontiers in the hiding places of simple life, its daily practices, form and appearance…….etc. And with permanency of our affirmation on the specificity of the Syrian people, who are plunged on tolerance, produced during the long history of civilization, but it appears clear that, the formal strife in facing the other, forecasted by these small particulars, which in this case can be politicized or magnified, as happened in Egypt of crushing eradicative controversy around the veil, consequently, since advisory opinion is not our specialty, but logic is our judging field. So if the ministry if Education sees the necessity of moving veiled women to an administrative work, that is because of nature of educational process, which requires the appearance of the face, for its simple and compound expressions, as a primary tool of suggesting to/and communicating with the recipient. This is not to defend the Ministry of education, it is rather corroborating a logical decision, for the welfare of student and surmounting the social welfare, which rarely take place in the right way, but it appears, as we suppose, setting the educational process in action, specially that the Egyptian experiment crossed the view of every one, when one of the religious pillars in Egypt sees that, veil restrains the ability of the small child to learn and the rest of the story is known. How will it be when the (female) teacher who is the axis of educational work, development and the centre of reaction and giving in the class, is tied to a barrier, that separates her from those, who are suppose to be her own kids, or at least her brothers and friends? If the teacher is veiled with the excuse that, there are teens in the class rooms, a real enigma for the veil is presuming a mala fide in the others, or it supposes a default in facing the world face to face, sees it doesn’t deserve showing, for a default in it, or in those to whom it is going to be shown, so in turn the rejection becomes for both, teacher and student multiplied, despite that during all of our student age, we use to study the subject of Islamic education, which we have received in our governmental and private schools, the sayings of the (peace be upon him) define the fault of woman, and the face is not a fault. As a matter of fact, personal experience may be agreeable to some extent, in the issue of projections from the near past to the present in which we are living, for on the school benches we have known the other face for motherhood and fatherhood, and we have been attached to teachers, who will one day turn out to be the heritage and the history of this country, before whom once we have disclosed our secrets and contradictions, those we haven’t even disclosed before our real parents….. Today the situation may be changed a little or a lot, but this is the picture which we have stocked for teacher, so, consequently the use of the veil, primarily excludes the possibility of the supposed family relation in a place for good upbringing and refining, before being for education. I personally can’t impose restrictions on personal freedom of others, or puts limits to it, except in clearly separating between it and the freedom of society, for presuming bad intent in others, by a religious inflexibility to this extent, is but a stocked encounter for society, which has its accumulative reactions, so that we don’t stumble into the bottleneck of random work, of which there are pros and against, invest between personal freedom and politicization, so the government has to place limits for this crisis, which are willed to be fabricated by political and social parties, or stringent circles, so the decree which has been issued, for schools and universities, to define them as educational entities, those have their own privacy. In a strict Muslim neighboring countries, that doesn’t contradict its Islam (( for necessities justify the prohibited )) it actually represent the moderate face of religiosity, so, if we are talking about personal freedom, as the law restricts nudity and libertinism, it should bound inflexibility as well, so that clear defining stands between them, in a society that didn’t learn to respect the other to the least extent. So as it is the right of the Ministry of education to interfere in the indecent dress, it is also its right to deal with Talebanic theories, so, clear law becomes necessity, to eradicate the controversy, between the pros and the against,, specially that the university campus witnessed the famous incident, in which a young man wore a veil and entered a room of a girl in the girls hostel, although long time has passed, but it proves the necessity of disclosing the face, in a fertile environment such as ours, and the calamities which were witnessed, as a result of fundamental terrorism in the eighties, are still terrorizing those who witnessed them, where they feared to travel between cities by bus, afraid of an explosion, for no sin they have committed . This is not an accusation for religious people, for ultimately, every one of us has the right of principle, but is a precaution, demanding the uncovering of the face, to define identity, fearing falsifying seditions, that may originate out or inside, , tying it to identities that may light sectarian volcanoes, under which lava boils.
