Minisre of Higher Education Dear Distinguished Guests Dear conferees and colleagues, It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to Damascus University, and to our international guests I say, welcome to Syria. Not far away from where we convene today, hidden from the hustle and bustle of modern life, under the shade of towering pine trees, and beneath the ancient majesty of the walls of old Damascus lies the tomb of Khawla Bint Al-Azwar, the 7th century pioneering Arab Muslim woman who participated in the conquest of Damascus. |

Women As Natural Peacemakers
|
Massoumeh Ebtekar* Women and Tradition conference In the name Of Allah It is an honor for me to address the international conference on Women and Traditions. The organizer of this conference should b applauded for their timely initiative,in a most sensitive and volatile region of the world. The topics undertaken by this conference, Traditions and Women are contentious issues, both face conceptual and social challenges today's world. In a globalizing world while modernizing societies confront tradition; women feel entangled in escalating clashes, in the cultural, social and economic spheres. |
